A place where careers flourish
It’s been a fascinating few weeks at the NRC, with eyecare professionals advancing their careers through exams and continuing professional development (CPD).
Royal College of Ophthalmologists
We hosted over 150 doctors for the Royal College’s refraction exams. Candidates came from across the UK and overseas. In groups of 10 to 12 they cycled through the fifth-floor clinical bays to complete a series of tasks under time constraints, including both theory and practical elements. A team of patients were at hand throughout the week to be willing subjects. We look forward to welcoming the exams team again later this year.
Positive Impact
Another sold-out specialist club event for Positive Impact, the second of three this year. This session looked at dry eyes and how to support these patients. Delegates saw live demonstrations and talks in small groups in our fifth-floor lecture theatre, clinical bays and board room.
ABDO CPD
A group of 25 eyecare professionals collected interactive continuing professional development (CPD) points and gained valuable skills with ABDO CPD. They took part in a series of contact lens workshops and practise applications in the fifth-floor clinical bays. The event was held in association with our Gold CPD sponsors, Bausch + Lomb.
Specsavers
We were delighted to welcome Specsavers back, with over 50 trainee optometrists and 11 facilitators from around the country on both days of the pre-reg academy course. With half of the fourth floor opened up to make a large lecture room, the students worked in small groups with experienced Specsavers staff.
ABDO College
The College is holding exams for senior optical assistants 28–29 May. Theory exams for over 25 students on running on various dates until 20 June. We will also be preparing for the spectacle dispensing exams which will run for five weeks, starting from 10 June.
