NRC to Focus on OCT

After a busy weekend with the Association of British Dispensing Opticians’ (ABDO) consultation event which took place at the NRC and via a simultaneous live broadcast, the team at the NRC are having a deep clean and replacing partition walls in the run up to a new event, Focus on OCT.

Reporting back on the consulation day event, NRC head of operations Mat Stringer says, “It was great to see ABDO members back for their annual event which took place online last year. With a film crew recording the event, plus online login for members via GoToWebinar everyone could access the event in the way that suited them best.”

ABDO’s head of communications and IT Antonia Chitty says, “Thanks to the team at the NRC for a great day. We all enjoyed the fresh coffee, pastries and fruit as we chatted before the meeting. It was fantastic to get face to face with people who we had only seen online for some time. The event was a great success and the NRC team provided excellent support. People appreciated the easy access and free parking at the venue too.”

Later this week, the first Focus on OCT event will take place at the NRC. This event is the next step in supporting ABDO’s extended services training with a focus for members on optical coherence tomography (OCT). ABDO clinical lead Max Halford says, “At these practical days participants will gain hands on-experience of image capture on a range of OCTs, have a refresher of retinal anatomy, and begin to learn what are normal and abnormal OCT images. With support from a range of experts and working in small groups it is an informative and vitally useful practical session for all dispensing opticians, optometrists and support staff who wish to gain a better knowledge of OCT and its use.” Attendees also have access to an online lecture in advance of the event to ensure their theoretical knowledge is up to date. Return next week for photos from the event and to see how the participants got on.
