Extended services day success
2 November saw another group of contact lens opticians (CLOs) attend the NRC for the ABDO Extended Services Day run under strict Covid-19 precautions.
A revised timetable meant that much of the lecture element had been previously covered via a webinar and therefore the day could be dedicated to hands-on experience.
The group was divided between four tutors, Sasha and Sharon from WOPEC and Daryl and Max from ABDO, which meant that tutor-student ratios were high and groups could be kept small to maintain social distancing.
The foreign body removal and contact tonometry workshops were interspaced with training on advanced slit lamp techniques and anterior chamber viewing.
Feedback from the students was extremely positive and all the students felt the day had helped greatly in their preparation for the Extended Services OSCE in early 2021. Course organiser Max Halford said, “Can I just again say thank you to the NRC team for looking after us so well today. The feedback I had from the candidates was yet again 100% positive and the Covid-19 precautions worked extremely well.”
